Winter camp is coming!
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the fun stops. This season we are offering a 4 day camp experience from December 28th to December 31st (with no camp on January 1st). The camp day will begin at 9:00AM and go until 4:00PM. We ask that you provide lunch and a couple snacks for your child and we will supplement throughout the day with home(garden)made treats. We will be spending our time creating cozy (and delicious) concoctions, playing wintery field games, building forts, and exploring the science of a garden through art, music, movement, literature, and a whole lot of imagination! The Green Schoolhouse aims to get children active no matter the weather. That said, we’ll be moving our main classroom inside to a greenhouse (located at 6801 SE 60th Ave. Portland, OR 97206) where we will be able to stay warm and dry, though there will still be plenty of time outside.
During the week you can expect your child to take a closer look at survival in the garden, from the hibernating creatures and plants to our own survival in storing and preserving food like jam, tomato sauce and dehydrating. We will explore light and darkness, warmth and cold, and life cycles all within the context of our garden environment. Children will have the opportunity to create their own stories for the garden and season as well as explore the changes around them through scientific experiments from understanding rain and snow to photosynthesis. As always we will blend the natural world with a touch of magic to create an unforgettable experience for your children.
